Labor negotiations over a new proposed three-year wage contract for ASARCO copper mine workers are continuing.
The next round of meetings between ASARCO management and representatives of six unions is set for March 10, followed by additional bargaining sessions scheduled on March 13 and March 14.
The old wage contract expired on July 1 of last year but workers are still covered under the terms of the old agreement until a new wage package can be reached. Negotiations have been underway since.
The United Steelworkers Union said talks with the company during last month yielded some progress and “we reached an agreement on a fair drug and alcohol policy that will help make our workplace as safe as possible.”For the complete article see the 03-05-2014 issue.
