Home and Building Tour celebrates past, looks to the future

Modified: Monday, Mar 10th, 2014

Members of the Bustle & Boots Square Dance Club held their annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church as part Home Tour weekend.

Globe — The 30th Annual Historic Home and Building Tour was another wonderful opportunity to take a look into the struggles and dreams of our community’s past and how those dreams continue to live on through the loving care of current owners.

The first home on the tour was the Ratcliff/Reyes home. The home is described as a craftsman home and it is obvious that each nook and cranny is a work of handmade art. Little sets of shelves are tucked into walls and doorways flank graceful wooden pillars.

The home is filled with furniture from the early 1900s, including a large, honky-tonk piano that has probably witnessed some bawdy evenings in its time.

The home may even house its very own ghost. The story goes that one of the owners of the house was sitting at the dining room table. At the end of the room is a large serving buffet. A silver tea service occupies the center of the piece. The tea set shows signs of wear with a dent or two. The sugar bowl is missing its cover. One day one of the occupants of the house saw the sugar bowl dance. It was only the sugar bowl. The rest of the service stayed at rest.
