GLOBE —The City of Globe joined the the Copper Communities Alliance at Monday’s regular council meeting. The item to join the alliance was taken off of the consent agenda for further discussion. Steve Stratton, the county Public Works Director, was on hand to answer the council’s questions. Stratton explained that Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick asked that the communities living inside the copper triangle join together to form an alliance. The Copper Communities Alliance will carry a single message to Congress in support of the Resolution Copper bill. “We felt that by forming the alliance, it would give a common voice to the Congresswoman to help push this along,” said Stratton. “It’s important to get future hearings heard before the January 2011 deadline, or the project will be back at square one.”
The alliance has chosen three representatives to speak before Congress, one being Globe Mayor Fernando Shipley.
