Lavin Wash floods Wheatfields

Modified: Tuesday, Jul 8th, 2014

Terri Andress surveys the damage after Saturday’s flooding in Wheatfields.
Wheatfields — On Saturday night three large thunderstorms passed over Wheatfields north of Globe, dropping upwards of 1.75 inches of rain directly over the land that feeds the Lavin Wash. The chute feeding the water into Pinal Creek would not contain the run-off, so it overflowed at the crossing on old highway 88 near the famous Gila Monster.

To make matters worse for residents of Wheatfields, Little Acres and Central Heights, there was a storm-caused power outage between 8:40 p.m. and 12:20 a.m.
