Globe City Council OKs $254,000 bid for elevator at Center for the Arts

This is an artist’s rendering of what the CVCA elevator could possibly look like. The elevator will be on the north side of the building, next to United Jewelry.

Globe — At its meeting on Aug. 12, the Globe City Council unanimously approved a $254,000 bid from TSG Constructors in Phoenix to build a new elevator at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts. Mayor Terry Wheeler, James Haley and Lerry Alderman did not attend the meeting.

Previously, at the July 22 city council meeting, Center for the Arts director Kip Culver had made a detailed presentation about the elevator project. He explained that TSG was the lowest, and most qualified, bidder.

The $254,000 bid is almost $33,000 more than the $221,275 the Center for the Arts is receiving in the form of a grant from the Arizona Department of Housing.

To bridge that gap, the United Fund of Globe-Miami pledged $35,000, and the Center for the Arts itself pledged $18,000. The excess of more than $21,000 will be used for any unexpected or unplanned contingencies.
