Lawsuit filed against Trent and Flores
Posted: Wednesday, Jan 6th, 2010

GLOBE — A group of eight former and current employees of the Globe Unified School District have filed a class-action lawsuit against Tim Trent and his wife, Daisy Flores. Trent, the district superintendent, was relieved of duty with pay at a June meeting of the Globe School Board pending an audit of the district’s financial and personnel records.

The lawsuit was filed in September by the Law Offices of William R. Hobson and Kevin Koelbel in Chandler. Flores, the Gila County District Attorney, had no comment when reached through e-mail.

Globe School Board president Cayci Vuksanovich did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

The plaintiffs are listed as Gerald Bouma, Da’Niel Fresquez, Johnna Lash, Mark Lash, Robert Miller, Linda Miller, Louis Rodl and Roberto Thompson.

Among other things, the suit alleges that:

• Trent engaged in a “campaign of harassment, fear, and intimidation against the Plaintiffs.”

• “Trent’s actions were outwardly aggravated, outrageous, malicious, or fraudulent and guided by an evil mind.”

• “On information and belief, approximately 40 staff and faculty and a significant portion of the student population have left employment or attendance at GUSD to escape Trent’s conduct.

“All those who remain continue to suffer under his abuse and bullying.”

• “Trent kept a list of people he did not like, which he shared with (Director of Teaching and Learning Jennifer) Kinnard, and targeted them for harassment, mistreatment, forced resignations, or humiliation.”

• “Trent’s actions were extreme and outrageous and done with conscious disregard of the knowledge that his conduct would harm the Plaintiffs.”

• “GUSD was responsible for the College Preparatory Academy (“CPA”) ... Helios Education Foundation (“Helios”) donated money to fund CPA ... The local Signal Peak Community Foundation managed the Helios funds.”

The Silver Belt will have more information on the lawsuit as it becomes available.
