Gila County — Gabriel Jaramillo, age 57, who is wanted in connection with a homicide in Eagar, Ariz., is still on the run in Gila County. The Gila County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a pursuit with Mr. Jaramillo on the evening of Aug. 25 which traveled from Globe to the northern shores of Roosevelt Lake. Several agencies were involved, including the Globe Police Department, Arizona Department of Public Safety, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement and Arizona Game and Fish.

During the course of the pursuit, two deputies exchanged gunfire with the suspect while a third deputy was shot at. None of the deputies were hurt in the gunfire, but the suspect’s vehicle was damaged from the shooting, which law enforcement agents believe resulted in the vehicle stopping and Mr. Jaramillo fleeing the scene. Due to the fact that the suspect was armed, the vehicle was initially cleared for anyone else in the vehicle and it was decided that DPS Special Operations was needed for the use of specialized equipment.

On Aug. 27, 2012, Department of Corrections Tracking teams who have been utilized from the morning of Aug. 26 located some tracks from the suspect heading in a north easterly direction away from Roosevelt Lake and away from any populated areas of Tonto Basin. The tracking teams have helped to narrow the search area for the suspect but the suspect still remains outstanding.

Operations will continue through the evening and into tomorrow and further if needed. Sheriff John Armer would like to thank the agencies who have participated in this search including Arizona Department of Public Safety, Special Operations and Ranger Helicopter, Globe Police Department, Arizona Game and Fish, Maricopa County SO, Pinal County SO, Mesa PD Helicopter, Arizona Department of Corrections Tracking and K-9 Teams.

This suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. Call your local law enforcement if you see this suspect and do not approach him. Jamarillo is 6-foot, 2-inches tall, 195-210 pounds, and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and baseball cap.
