David Truett, 74

Posted

David was born September 24, 1944 to Jewell Frances Truett and Orlin Alph Truett in Dothan, Alabama. His father was in the Air force, so they traveled to many places, including Guam and England. He has one younger brother, Kenneth, who also became a teacher and now lives in Yuma.

David attended college in Guam, Kansas, and graduated with a BS in Biology and Science from NAU in flagstaff, AZ, where he later earned his MS as well. He loved teaching, but also earned credentials for school Administration, serving years as the Principal for Bagdad High School, the Assistant Principal for Globe High School, and Principal for Superior High School. The family also spent two years on the Navajo reservation at Chinle, AZ where he served both as personnel Director for the school district there and spent one semester as the Principal in Window Rock, AZ before he retired.

David met his wife Karen through a friend, when he was a student at NAU. They were married on June 6, 1966, the day after she graduated from nursing school. At this time, David was still a student at NAU, while Karen worked at the Flagstaff Hospital. About two years later, they had their first child, Timothy Neil. Five years later they had another son, Nicholas Paul. They lost Nic at age 19 in a mine cave-in in superior. Dave and Karen have nine grandchildren now and they loved their “Tata” he loved to take them camping and fishing. They have one great-grandson so far.

David was a life-long member of the Church of Christ and at time, led singing or gave sermons. He did not feel well in recent years, so was not able to attend as much as he would have liked. He passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 in the hospital of massive infection. He is now in the Lord’s presence constantly and no longer has any pain or illness.

Although we mess him here we are happy he is free of these earthly travails.

A Memorial Services will be held on Sat. February 24, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the Miami Church of Christ in Miami, AZ.
