Edward Dale Blumer

Posted

Edward Dale Blumer was born on Dec. 15, 1926 in Globe, Ariz. to Estelle Beeman Blumer and Rudy Blumer.

As a child, Eddie Dale lived on Parker Creek in the early 1930s and said those were some of the happiest days of his life. Eddie loved Parker Creek because of the great beauty of that area and the hours he spent exploring there as a carefree boy.

In 1939, the family moved to the Blumer Homestead on Crouch Creek out of Young, Ariz., where he attended Young school until his junior year in high school when he and a friend, Buttons Hazelwood, decided to attend Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah.

Shortly after, Eddie was drafted into the Army. In a letter to Eddie’s folks, his sergeant spoke of Dad’s sunny personality and how he enjoyed making his fellow soldiers laugh with his stories and jokes, and how he was interested in other cultures, including picking up some of the Japanese language in the brief time he was there.

He also enjoyed plunking out tunes on his guitar.

After being discharged, he worked at several cow outfits around the state, including the Diamond A’s in Seligman, Ariz., then returned to Young.

Riding horseback 17 miles each way from the Q Ranch to Young he courted Tommy Marie Clark, marrying her in Young in March of 1952.

Then the couple moved to Globe where Eddie went to work for Copper Cities for the next 20 years.

Dad was grateful and proud that he could work in the mining industry. He once said, “Where else could a guy with nothing but a GED support and raise a family?” (His grandfather, John George Blumer, came to Globe in 1901 as a machinist and had worked in the Old Dominion Mine.)

Dad always enjoyed his Spanish speaking co-workers.  They got a kick out of him wanting to speak Spanish with them. He would always say, “I’ve been trying to learn Spanish all my life.”

Eddie had always wanted to move back to Young, which he did in 1973. He went to work for the Young county road crew until his retirement. In 2005, Eddie and Tommy Marie moved from Young back to the Blumer Homestead and happily lived there until declining health four years later forced them to move back into Young.

In May of 2018, Eddie Dale and Tommy Marie moved into the Faubush Family Home in Globe.

His family will miss his infectious laugh and sense of humor, his love of history and interest in world affairs, his great patriotism for our country, his unfailing cheerfulness, his great kindness and understanding, his love of nature and his love for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Eddie is predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Tommy Marie, and is survived by his daughters Bethel Bennett (Bill) of Globe, Helen Romero of Casa Grande, Barbra Billingslea (Beau) of Wickenburg and Letha Cline (Woody) of Young; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-grandson soon to be born.

Funeral services for Mr. Blumer will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the Young Baptist Church in Young.

Interment will follow at Young Cemetery.

Assisting the family; Lamont Mortuary of Globe.
