Lady Tigers knock off ALA-Ironwood at home

Posted

The Globe High School Lady Tigers picked up a 3-0 win over the American Leadership Academy-Ironwood Lady Warriors at home last week.

The game was pushed up by an hour after the canceled JV game, but Globe still prevailed in three sets, 25-11, 25-18 and 25-21.

“We started really strong with good intensity,” said Globe head coach Lisa Hansen. “We ended practice yesterday at a really high intensity level, and that carried over into today and we started strong.”

According to Coach Hansen, Globe’s court coverage on defense was key for the Lady Tigers as they grabbed the opening sets. She credited Sonia Pichardo for getting the offense going with kills from her outside position.

ALA-Ironwood is a region foe from 3A South Central but this match did not count towards official game rankings. The Lady Tigers travel to ALA-Ironwood on Oct. 11 for a match that counts towards region rankings.

Nonetheless, Coach Hansen was pleased with the win because last season Globe was unable to top the Lady Warriors.

“I was pleased with this performance,” said Hansen. “It was nice to come out and play strongly against them because they are senior-heavy.”

The Lady Tigers competed at the Epic Tourneys Volleyball Invite in the Silver Division over the weekend, which culminated in a victory over rival Miami in bracket play.

Globe has one match scheduled this weekend, traveling to Benjamin Franklin on Sept. 29, for a region matchup against the Lady Chargers.
