State Funding

The City of Globe was informed by State Representative David Cook that this year’s State budget, signed by Governor Hobbs, includes funding for several projects in the City. The funding includes $3.5 million for the Jess Hayes sidewalk project to construct sidewalks from the new Connie’s Bridge to the Community Center. This funding was a collaborative request between the City and the County that has been in the works for the past two years. Other funding includes $1.2 million to go towards the upgrades of bridge projects. This funding is in addition to the $2.8 million allocated by ADOT for the replacement of Cottonwood Bridge. We want to thank Representative Cook for his continued support of rural Arizona and our city at the State level.

Rural Policy Forum

A reminder that the Rural Policy Forum will be held August 2-4, highlighting the Globe-Miami community. On Wednesday, August 2, there will be a four-hour tour of our community stopping at key locations for participants to visit. This tour will consist of about fifty people. The Forum will bring approximately 250 to 300 participants consisting of elected officials, economic directors, and business owners. There will be two and a half days of presentations focusing on rural issues in our communities. All presentations will be held at the Bullion Plaza Museum. The Town of Miami will be sponsoring a private dinner on Wednesday, August 2. The City of Globe will sponsor a private dinner on Thursday night, August 3. During the off time of the Forum, participants will be able to visit our entire community.

Community Center Pool

At the May 23 Council meeting, Resolution 1876 was approved unanimously by Council, waiving the daily user pass fees for the first year of operations to enter the pool. We are extremely excited to see the pool open again after ten years. These first couple of weeks of operation will give our staff the time to work out all the unknowns and to assure smooth operations and safety for the future of the facility. Please be patient and respectful with our staff as we become more proficient. These are a few pool guidelines to be aware of:

• Although there is no entry fee, everyone will be given a wristband.

• Pool hours are from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

• Initially attendees may be limited based on staff availability and volume of activity.

• You may experience a waiting line to get in at times. Please be patient with our staff.

• Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult.

• The splash pad will only be open during the hours of operation of the pool at this time.

• There is no concession stand at this time. It will be erected at a later date.

• The only food item allowed on the pool grounds for now is bottled water.

An official Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting will be scheduled at a later date. This is an amazing facility for the entire community to be proud of and enjoy. The City of Globe has agreed to take on the annual operations and maintenance costs, which was an obstacle with the previous efforts to build an Aquatic Center. Thank you to all the stakeholders that provided funding to make this project come to fruition. They are the City of Globe, Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center, Freeport McMoRan, BHP Copper, Capstone Pinto Valley, Gila County Board of Supervisors, United Fund of Globe-Miami, Arizona Complete Health, and First Interstate Bank.

Strategic Action Plan 2023

The final adoption of the 2023 Strategic Action Plan was approved at the May 23 meeting. The key topics include Community and Economic Development, Infrastructure, Quality of Life, Recreational Development, Public Safety, and Financial Sustainability. The updated Strategic Action Plan includes strategies to improve internal and external communications and marketing. Under the plan, the city will continue to seek funding for a multitude of projects that will build upon the success of the past couple of years. While the focus on economic development will play a key role in Globe’s future, our Council intends to continue creating a welcoming atmosphere and to make historic downtown Globe a destination location to the benefit of residents and visitors alike. Citizens Academy

At the April 25 Council meeting, the Citizens Academy participants were recognized with certificates and t-shirts for those who completed the seven-week course. We want to thank them for their participation and dedication to the program to learn more about our city structure and operations. Our next Citizens Academy is scheduled for the fall. First Fridays

First Fridays have become a monthly signature event and continue to grow each month with more participation from downtown businesses, vendors, and cruisers. Our Economic Development team spends an enormous number of hours planning this event. This event is not only enjoyed by our local residents in the community, but by many more people who are now coming from out of town on this day with an average participation of approximately 9,000 people. Everyone is invited to participate in the downtown cruise that begins at 5:30 p.m. starting at the Active Adult Center. We invite the community to come downtown and support the participating businesses and enjoy live music, food trucks, vendors, and even a Historic Fire Truck shuttle ride. Anyone wishing to set up a vendor booth during any First Friday event may do so at no cost by contacting Linda Oddonetto or Melissa Steele at 425-7146.
