Miami officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning

A suspect has been flown to a Valley hospital after an officer-involved shooting in Miami in the early hours of Saturday, Jan. 5.


In a Saturday morning press release, the Miami Police Department also announced that the officer was not injured during the incident.


At 12:13 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, the officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle headed eastbound on Highway 60.


After the driver failed to yield, the officer pursued the vehicle into a residential area, where shots were fired, the press release said.


The officer was not injured during the incident. The suspect was treated on scene, then flown to a Valley hospital for treatment of injuries.

Neither the officer nor the suspect have been identified at this time.


The matter is currently under investigation by an outside agency.


The press release stated that the Miami Police Department would release more information as it became available.


Miami Sgt. Keith Thompson thanked the Gila County and Pinal County Sheriff’s Offices, the Globe, Superior and Chandler Police Departments, and the Tri-City Fire Department for their assistance.
