Micah Gaudet made his Miami town manager debut at the Jan. 11 meeting. He began by thanking the council for choosing him for his position and also said that he is currently the youngest in the state of Arizona to hold this type of position. He was initially asked what he has planned in the first 60-90 days. After meeting with the excellent team of dedicated Miami town employees, they will be updating and presenting policies to the council in the coming weeks.
Gaudet has over 10 years in government service and a wealth of leadership expertise. He is a US Army Veteran, having served in two campaigns in eastern Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division, attaining the rank of Sergeant and finishing his enlistment filling the role of a Captain. He served as the first Director of Crime Strategies for the third largest county attorney’s office in the United States (Maricopa County, AZ), and helped implement an intelligence-led approach to prosecution and building the data dashboard. Gaudet was recruited by the City of Nogales to become the Executive Director of the Nogales Housing Authority. While working in the City of Nogales, he turned that department around and inspired a new positive vision for staff. He was also asked to lead the City’s Covid-19 response efforts and frequently volunteered to draft financial and operational policies, as well as leading collective bargaining negotiations on behalf of the city. Gaudet is the youngest municipal/county manager in Arizona, and likely one of the youngest in the United States, achieving this milestone at only 29 years old. He holds a BS in Economics from Middle Tennessee State University and a MA in Public Management from The Johns Hopkins University. He also completed a Certificate in Municipal Finance from the University of Chicago.
Councilman Michael Black commented that the Town of Miami is making history with the hiring of Gaudet.
