An initial call for a wanted person turned into an unlawful flight pursuit for over an hour. Sheriff’s Deputies were able to high point and watch the suspect drive over dirt roads until a time to engage was safe and feasible. The driver caused one accident before he wrecked the vehicle he was driving into a parked vehicle.
Donald Huggins, 40, of Globe, was arrested on multiple charges: unlawful flight from law enforcement, two counts of endangerment and animal cruelty of a law enforcement service dog. Huggins was wanted on four separate warrants for possession of a narcotic drug, driving suspended, criminal damage and theft.
Gila County Sheriff’s Office Deputies along with Globe Police Department worked closely to apprehend the suspect.
Canine Miclo was assaulted while apprehending Huggins during a short foot pursuit. Handler Travis Baxley told the Arizona Silver Belt that Miclo had no visible injuries and was mostly sore. Miclo has been with Baxley for four years and was donated to the Sheriff’s Office from the White Mountain Apache Reservation.
