William ‘Bill’ Kent Sr.

William “Bill” Kent Sr. passed away on Nov. 7 at Haven Care and is now free to join his wife and love of his life of 70 years in a restful place. Bill was born in Phoenix on Feb. 23, 1926 to parents Fred and Marcia Kent and was the youngest of five children.

He attended North High in Phoenix and as war was breaking, he decided to join the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Brule as an electrician which, would serve him well when he returned to civilian life.

He first joined Western Electric as an electrician in Phoenix, and then moved to Globe with the company. The move proved fruitful for him as he met the girl of his dreams, the former Betty Heyl.

They eventually married and had four children, Karen Reves, of Globe, William Jr., of Phoenix, Edwin, of Frazier Park, Calif. and Fred, of Riverside, Calif. During this time, he joined with Sears, Roebuck & Co as the service manager, eventually retiring in the early ’90s.

Bill was a community activist, as he served as president/ board member of Globe Chamber of Commerce, Globe Babe Ruth League, American Legion, Globe Bi-Centennial, Globe Water District and Saint Paul Methodist Church.

He is survived by his children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be privately held by the family. Any donations can be sent to the American Legion Henry Berry Post in Globe.
