The Globe Police Department’s Copper Hills Family Advocacy Center is poised to benefit from two grant awards totaling approximately $44,000, both of which were accepted by the City Council during their January 10 meeting.

The first grant, from the National Childrens Alliance in the amount of $25,000, was awarded for calendar year 2023. It will fund a victim advocate/assistant for the center’s director, Shelley Soroka-Spence. The second, in the amount of $19,140, was awarded by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office in 2022. Those funds will be used for training and operational expenses. Both grants were non-matching, requiring no contribution from the City.

The Copper Hills Family Advocacy Center, which held its grand opening on May 11, 2021, is intended to help crime victims receive needed assistance locally without transporting them to another facility.

It serves residents of Globe and surrounding communities, including the San Carlos Apache Reservation and White Mountain Apache Reservation. The center is primarily funded through grants and revenue generated by forensic interviews.
