Fishing was tough at the Let’s Talk Fishin (LTF) Bass Tournament at Roosevelt Lake on Oct. 21, 2023. Some of the secrets from the winners: They were using spinnerbaits – shallow & jigs in the deep. Some of the fish were caught in the 25-30-foot range.

Local anglers Anthony Avalos and Jacob Reynoso unlocked the mystery to catching the big one, outweighing 2nd Place by almost 3 lbs. They weighed in 21.24 lbs. for 5 bass with the big one topping the scales at 5.3 lbs.

Second place went to the father/daughter team of John & Alex Whaley of Payson.  They weighed in 18.48 lbs. with a big bass of 6.14 lbs.

Third place went to Vu Au & Pat Hanning of Tucson, weighing in 17.99 lbs. with a big bass of 6.59 lbs.

Other local anglers were:

Rocky Coffey & John Fertig of Tonto Basin, 9th Place with 13.35 lbs. and a big bass of 4.02 lbs.

Jhawn & Shawn Barrowdale, 11th Place with 11.04 lbs.

Freddy Valtiera & Frank Taylor, 25th Place with 8.73 lbs.

Frank Nader & David Oropeza, 37th Place with 5.25 lbs.
