To celebrate the past, present and future mining connections of our area, Love Where You Live (LWYL) is sponsoring an art competition for persons under the age of 30.

Preference will be given to those living in the Copper Corridor, which encompasses Globe, Miami, Superior, San Carlos, Thatcher, Pima, Safford, Winkelman, Hayden and Kearny.

Artwork should exhibit a mining theme and be convertible into coloring pages and/or community murals. Submissions may be hand-drawn, computer generated (original work only) or line-drawn from photographs.

Entries will be judged by the following criteria: adherence to the mining theme, potential for reproduction, creativity and originality, technical skill and overall impact. LWYL and community leaders in the Copper Corridor will choose the winning art pieces.

Winners will be paid $500 for use of their artwork and will be notified via phone, text and email mid-March.

If the art is to be made into a mural, the student/youth will be given the option of participating under the guidance of an experienced artist. If the winner has worked on larger murals, they will be given first option of applying for the muralist position.

Winners’ works will be displayed, and all art may be exhibited at an art show. A list of participating artists will be created, and these individuals will be invited to participate in future art initiatives.
